HELP WANTED!

Lost and Found Dog Rescue is a 501(c)(3) public charity. We are an all volunteer organization.  This means we rely upon people to donate their time and resources, not just to foster and provide for the dogs -- but to help with the administrative aspects.  We need reliable people who have the commitment to help with these aspects of the rescue as well.

PLEASE fill out a Volunteer or Foster Application today!

URGENTLY NEEDED

Dog Trainers, Day or Weekend Playdates & Dog Walkers

Can't foster? We need people who can take a dog for a weekend Playdates just to play ball, go for walks or swims, do basic training (sit, stay, come, heel), give them a chance to play with other dogs or children, or just give them some personal attention and socialization.  This can be for just a couple hours, overnight, or an entire weekend. This helps not only the dogs, but also the foster parent in New Castle, DE who may have other commitments or just need a break.  We would need you to fill out our foster application first.

FUNDRAISING/PUBLICITY ORGANIZER

Frankly, our currently active volunteers are stretched too thin to do this job right. Although some individuals have managed to raise some money, too many good fundraising opportunities have been squandered because we do not have the time or expertise to properly publicize or organize these efforts.

Therefore, we need a self-starting individual with the experience, the ideas, the time, the motivation, and the persistence to raise money for an operating fund for Lost and Found.  We have a goal of raising a $5000 Emergency Fund to cover sudden expenditures such as repairs on the truck used for transports or emergency surgery or medical treatment on a dog in our care. We do NOT want to continually be in a situation in which a dog could die because we cannot afford the needed medical care or because we don’t have a working vehicle to get to the shelter before it is euthanized.

Sponsors

We need people to sponsor dogs with special needs, Austin,  Sheila, Aristotle who have been hit by cars and we have incurred huge medical bills. We have our beautiful Foxhound Fifi who was horribly abused and will be with us for a long time while we teach her to trust. Sponsors will have their name on the webpage of "their" dog, and will raise and/or donate money towards their costs, provide them with toys, treats, leashes, etc and/or otherwise help provide care for them.  Sponsors are welcome to meet with their dogs and the foster family caring for them.

Foster Families

We can save more dogs if we have more temporary homes to care for them until they find their permanent family.  Please read more under the Volunteers heading: Foster  Homes Needed and What's it Like to Foster.

Fundraising/Special Events Volunteer
Volunteers needed to help with fundraising or publicity campaigns to raise money for Lost and Found Dog Rescue. Events we are working on now are PartyLite Bingo (an all time favorite to everyone!) Howl-o-Ween Costume Pawty, SPAYghetti Dinner to raise funds for our low income DE-SEX in the City Spay Neuter Program.

Check Applications/Home Visits

Volunteers are needed to check the veterinary and personal references on adoption applications by phone, and/or to do home visits.  Applicants are from within a 2 hour radius of New Castle, DE, i.e. from DE, southeast PA, northeast Maryland, or southern NJ, so volunteers from these regions could specifically check those within their local area.

 Vet Visits

Volunteers are needed to take dogs to or from vet visits. Sometimes it will be a round-trip, sometimes one-way.  Generally, dogs will be transported between New Castle, DE and Brandywine Vet or Concord Vet in Chadds-Ford PA, or Kent County SPCA in Camden, DE.

 Dog Transporter
The transporter will help pick up dogs from shelters and transport them to our coordinator, Marleen Oetzel in New Castle DE (animalrescue@comcast.net).
