Well it took a long time to find the perfect parents to match Lucy's needs but we have now. She is finally home with her new Mom and Dad and she has 4 legged brother and sister. We are so very happy for our little formerly chained up baby girl that now she is free to accept all the love coming her way. She has also learned to love which is the most wonderful trait of dogs - even after abuse & extreme neglect, they can still love again.

UPDATE: Please read SweetPea's profile and our adoption policies prior to applying.

SweetPea has a video below --

PLEASE NOTE: This is a 2 1/2 year old dog with a possible life span of aother 10-12 years.
We have had several applications from seniors in their mid to late 60's. She needs to have someone who can take her for daily walks for the next 10 years or so

It is the opinion of this rescue that animal lovers seniors in their mid to late 60's should be looking to adopt the thousands of homeless older dogs who seldom have a chance at life (and die in shelters) because everyone wants the young ones. Dogs who have become homeless at 4 years & up because their families can no longer need all the seniors to adopt them.

She is our dearest, darling little dog who just wants to snuggle 24/7. She is moderately active little dog, and she is a huge couch/bed/potato. All she wants is to have someone she can snuggle with day and night. She just wants to give you all her love and she has lots of give.

We will only adopt her to a family that meets the following criteria. She is a very special little girl and she needs special care. We will not put her in a home where someone works outside of the home. She needs someone who has all the time in the world to spend with her - or someone who works from home. She get's upset when she is alone even briefly --- which is probably due to the fact that she lived outside alone and afraid. There will be no exception to this since we feel that for her sake - this is what she needs to be happy.

Her foster Mom works from home and she is content as long as someone is there at all times to make her feel safe. We want her go to a home where there is a calm atmosphere so that she can enjoy peace and quiet and most of all -- we want her to be someone's beloved baby, she longs to be someone's little lap and or head warmer!

We do not want to place her in a home with children - we want her to be someone's little special lap baby. She deserves to get all the attention -- instead of having to share it.

(See her full story and before and after pictures below)

We believe SweetPea lived chained up outside and we are thankful that she was able to escape (unlike so many dogs across the country who live chained up outside their entire lives) and that a wonderful man rescued her when she was running in traffic.

She was so full of fleas & had deep sores that when our groomer bathed her & had to shave her down - the water was full of blood (see below) Her huge open sores were on her rear and the back of her ears. It has taken weeks of antibiotics and soothing creams to allow her wounds to heal - which they have. She actually has a very long, curly coat which is very soft but we have kept her shaved and groomed. Please note: There is an extra $95 costs on top of our adoption donation to help us to be reimbursed for her medical treatment which included being shaved down.

SweetPea's little heart was wounded also, she was afraid at first of me - but quickly saw that she was safe with us. She is as you can see very kissy and just wants to be your cuddle-buddy!

One of her parents may have been a cat since she always climbs up on the sofa and rests on the cushions the way cats do. She also loves to be in bed with our gang. I so wish they made a bed larger then KING so there would be more room for my husband and myself in our bed!

PLEASE NOTE: A fence is always mandatory. Please read ALL our adoption policies BEFORE applying for a puppy or dog.

If you would like to fill out an application, you must first register on the website and await an e-mailed passcode. Once you have this info, you will be able to access our application.

We abide by the Humane Association's recommendation. For ANY DOG adoption to have a relatively good chance of success, we believe a child should be 8 years old & up. We only adopt what we call our "BONA-FIDE Kid Lovers to families with children." Many dogs do not want to live with children. You should only adopt a dog who LOVES kids to be sure you are able to make a lifetime commitment to a dog.

We also expect that if no one is home all day, arrangements will be made to provide the dog with at least (1) "potty break" daily. This can be through a family member, neighbor, or Petsitting service. We know that it is impossible for us humans to "hold it" for 8-10 hours, so we do not want our "shelter kids" to be expected to do so.
