UPDATE: My Little Sheila (only 35 pounds!) is such a good girl! She lives in my home, on my sofa & in my bed. She loves her foster brothers & sisters but due to her breed, a herding breed, she is constantly nipping at them to herd them. She doesn't do that to humans, just dogs. So, we feel for the sake of any other pets that she is adopted into a home where she is the only dog. She never fights but she does make the other angry & she has no idea why. She is just being her.

I love her, she is always following me around like a shadow so she is very focused on her people.

Aussie like Border Collies & JRT's are a
very special breed & we at L&F Dog Rescue feel to make a proper match that these breeds are only adopted to families who have/had their own experience with the breed.

UPDATE: Little Sheila has completed her PT with Dr. Gray and has been given a complete clean bill of health. She still has a tiny limp to her leg, but considering what happened to her, that is amazing and a testament to Dr. Gray's ability to work miracles with our "broken dogs" so they can have normal lives.

As you can see, she loves to sit in chairs or on the sofa. For that reason we will only adopt her to a family who allows their dogs on the furniture.

She is also an Aussie thru & thru so we would only want to adopt her to people who love the breed and understand that her *herding* is part of her very being and she needs to have a family that is active and will give her the time & a job for her. That is what all Aussie's & Border Collies need --- a job.

UPDATE: My little Sheila is such a cuddle/huggy bear pup. She is gentle, sweet, and OH, so affectionate. All
she wants to get belly rub and sit
as close as possible. This one will devote her life to pleasing who ever adopts her. Sheila is a very, very special girl. All L&F dogs are, but she really seems to realize she was given a second chance to live.

She is very submissive so when you talk to her she smiles and comes at you sideways offering her rear end first.

She is healing beautifully and will be starting her PT treatments in a few weeks. She had a very bad break on that leg but Dr. Gray expects her to make a full recovery.

UPDATE from our vet Dr. Brad Gray:
Sheila came to me with a broken right femur. Her right leg was 3 inches shorter than the left. The fracture was at least 4 months old and was healing side to side instead of end to end. The surgical repair was to re-break the leg and stretch all of the tendons, muscles, and ligaments so that the ends could be placed together properly. After 5 hours this was accomplished with 4 pins, 8 clamps, and 2 bars. After surgery her leg soft tissues were so tight she could not bend it at all. She also developed an infection in the leg that is now under control. Today she is comfortable on the leg and is able to get about 25% flexion and extension and the bones are healing. I expect her to make a full recovery. — Brad Gray VMD CCRP.

Sheila's Story

Sheila is a female Merle Aussie, as shown by her beautiful markings. We are guessing she is approximately 1 year old. She came to us from a shelter in South Carolina. It was determined there that Sheila has a broken leg - it is her right rear leg. The shelter's veterinarian believes that the break was months old. The veterinarian said the right-rear leg bone has been broken and "slid" down the leg bone and has begun to fuse in another section of the leg. So although now Sheila's leg is healing on its own, it is healing incorrectly, resulting in her right-rear leg being about 3" shorter than her other rear leg. Sheila has had reconstructive surgery on her rear-right leg and now her leg is 2" shorter then the other. Dr. Brad Gray performed her reconstructive surgery which took FIVE hours!! This will help her leg heal properly.

Sheila was given a bath and she is as SO soft she feels like a rabbit!
Sheila is a very sweet girl, very submissive, extremely affectionate and spends her evenings snuggling with her foster Mom. Sheila is quite "spunky" despite her debilitating injury- she wants to run and play and give kisses!

She will need to have 4-6 weeks of PT at the Brandywine Vet hospital. She will have to learn how to use that leg again in the underwater treadmill.

We have not gotten her vet bill yet but we are running fundraising events in her honor to help defray the cost of her surgery.

Our wish for Sheila and Conall (as with every L&F dog) is to find them each a family of their own to love and love them back. We could use your help by sponsoring Sheila or Conall. Lost and Found Dog Rescue provides a caring and a nurturing environment until we adopt each individual dog. However, the same way it costs money to care for a healthy dog, it also costs money to provide constant and continual care, especially for a special needs dogs like Winston, Austin, Sheila and now Patrick.

By sponsoring a dog, you can help to alleviate our costs and allow this rescue to continue to save the dogs we do. Sponsoring a dog may take the form as a weekly or monthly donation, or you can make a one-time donation on our secure Website where we take Discover, AMEX, VISA/MasterCard and PayPal. It's your choice!

Payments may also made directly with Visa/MasterCard, AMEX at Brandywine Vet Hospital in any of our dog's names.
The number for Brandywine Vet is:
610-459-0500.

Please inform Lost and Found Dog Rescue if you make a direct payment to Brandywine Vet so we can provide you a tax receipt for this donation as soon as possible.

We also expect that if no one is home all day, arrangements will be made to provide the dog with at least (1) "potty break" daily. This can be through a family member, neighbor, or Petsitting service. We know that it is impossible for us humans to "hold it" for 8-10 hours, so we do not want our "shelter kids" to be expected to do so.

We have several Petsitting service companies that we can recommend:

We abide by the Humane Association's recommendation. For ANY DOG adoption to have a relatively good chance of success, we believe a child should be 8 years old & up. We only adopt what we call our "BONA-FIDE Kid Lovers to families with children." Many dogs do not want to live with children. You should only adopt a dog who LOVES kids to be sure you are able to make a lifetime commitment to a dog.

Any dog/pup adopted from us must have a fenced in property either Physical or Electric Fence. The fence must be installed before we will proceed with processing an adoption application. If you need a fence for your dog, but are not permitted to have a physical fence, or chose not to, please visit our friends at Pet Stop. Mention that you saw them at our website.
