  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • Current Age: 20 Years 9 Months (best estimate)
Wonderful NEWS!!! Miss Miri who came from Indiana, is being fostered in PA has been adopted and we'll be moving to New Castle, Delaware. We are so thrilled for her and her new family. We are told that they saw Miri at our website so this is a very special event for us to have played a small part in helping her find her new family. Yes, it was a GOOD day in rescue! Donations would still be appreciated since her foster Mom paid ALL her medical bills out of pocket. The vet's phone number is listed below if you would like to make a donation in Miri's name.

** We heard about this poor puppy and wanted to help. This is from another very small in-home rescue group like ours. Donations would be appreciated to help pay for Miri's vet bill and she is also looking for a family who would love to take care of her for the rest of her life.**

UPDATE from Mira's foster Mom: 9-02-04 - She is very sweet. Very loving. My one cat walked up to her and touched noses with her. She just wagged her tail. She gave a low growl at my male Italian Greyhound, but became friendly as soon as she saw his wagging tail. Then, she proceeded to try and play with both my dogs. This is of course a no-no as we can't have her running around on those legs for a while. But she is quite a clown. She's been cooped up for over a week and she's ready to play now.

UPDATE 9-01-04 Hi Marleen, I read the listing for those poor Parvo puppies. I am so glad they pulled through. It's so heartbreaking to know that they are suffering so unnecessarily.

Miri has made a turnaround. She finally ate a full meal today and her front leg is looking better. Her vet didn't intend to do surgery on the front leg, just the back. But when he checked it, there was a giant pocket of debri and dying muscle tissue inside the leg. He removed all the debri and inserted a drain. So, that wound is finally looking like it just might heal with no problems. The bones are being kept together by a splint. The back leg has a pin in it that will need to come out in 4 weeks. The poor thing won't be allowed to bounce around for a month. Take care, Rada

Miri - German Shepherd Dog,Irish Setter Mix Notes: 8/29/04 Poor Miri, she's had such a rough start. She was hit by a car several days ago while running loose. The person who hit her picked her up and laid her down on someone's porch. Animal control was called and she was taken to the vet. The vet explained that she had two broken legs and gave her antibiotics. The county doesn't allocate a lot of money for vet care, so Miri didn't get her bones fixed. The animal control officer was very concerned about Miri and put out a phone call to rescue to save her. Several wonderful people gave up their weekend to transport Miri from Indiana to us here. We then took her to the vet. Despite antibiotics, Miri is fighting a systemic infection and is now getting IV antibiotics. Her front broken leg is being bandaged for now to keep the bones aligned.

8/30/04 - Miri had surgery to repair her back leg today. Her front leg is splintered. She will be on reduced activity for a while. Please keep little Miri in your thoughts. She is not even 4 months old yet and has been through so much. Yet, she is one of the sweetest dogs we've ever met. She has let us examine her broken legs without a single complaint. Everyone at the vet hospital is completely in love with her. Miri is looking for the perfect home to call her own. Could you be the one for her? Contact her vet to make donations This is the vet's address for the pup: Harleysville Veterinary Hospital 391 Main St Harleysville, PA (215) 256-4664
