About Kira - Adopted!

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
UPDATE on Kira: Dear Missy Cliff and I know exactly how you feel. We adopted Kira in April 2004 and she is now a year old. Her story is truly heart breaking. When Marlene found her she was on the shelter's to be destroyed list. Kira was not very social at the time due to her history of abuse. Given her symptom we believe was beaten by a middle to upper aged male and when Marlene brought her home she would cringe and tinkle anytime a man came near her. Through her husbands patients and persistence she became comfortable with him. When Cliff and I met Kira we loved her instantly. We decided to make her apart of our family and brought her home to live with us.

We have since moved into a new house and she is the princess of the castle. When she greets us after a hard day at work her wiggling butt and happy face is enough to make anyone smile. We bring her with us to all social occasions and she has become a real social butterfly. She greets everyone with love and wiggles. She is still timid around some men, but getting better everyday. She is friends with all the neighbors and their animals. Kira is also very intelligent and has mastered the commands sit, come and shake. We are currently working on give kisses. She is extremely affectionate and sweet. She has her own bed at the foot of ours where every night she sleeps like it was always meant to be.

Kira fills our lives with joy everyday. From when she plays with her squeaker balls to giving us kisses as many times as possible, or just snuggling up against us letting us feel that we are so appreciated in her life. Cliff and I have never loved an animal so much. Just thinking about the fact that we would have missed having her in our lives had it not been for Marlene sinks my heart.

Marlene is a very warm giving person who does wonderful things for these animals. She gives them a place to call home, lots of love, socialization and a chance for them to have a real family. We love her for what she did for Kira and will never forget her.

I am attaching some pictures of Kira today. Let me know if there is anything we can do to help you. I could see hosting a reunion of some sort for Marlene being a fun idea. Please let me know what I can do. Thanks Krista

PLEASE NOTE: This little girl was so abused by men that when she lived with me she was afraid of my husband. Look at her now with her new Daddy!

Dear Foster Mom and Dad, I wanted to let you know what a wonderful weekend I had with my new Mom and Dad. I meet all my new cousins and Aunts and Uncles and Grandparents. We were celebrated my Mom and Dad's engagement so everyone was in town. Sat. we went to Mom's family. At their house there were five adults, four dogs and one baby. We all went for a walk to the park so I got to run Dad while trying to keep up with my Aunt, Tori who is a German Shepard. I also have two cousins Chester and Buffy. They were a little scared of my cone though. I am sending you pictures. You can tell which one is me, I have the big cone on my head. I will sent you some better pictures tomorrow, as Mommy forgot them on the home computer. At Dad's I meet my new Grandparents, their three dogs and my Aunt and her dog. It was a full weekend and I was tried by the time it was over. I am having lots of fun and can't wait to get my cone off. Thanks again for taking such wonderful care of me. I can't wait to see you. PS How is Colleen, give her kisses from me. Love, Kira This sweet little girl only 6 months old and is a real love bug. She was rescued from the SPCA in Georgetown, DE. Her only problem is that in her short time on this earth, she has already been terribly abused. At this time, she is afraid of men but she is coming around day by day. She will need someone with a gentle hand to love her and to gain her trust. When she trusts that she will not be hurt, she curls up in your lap and loves to have her belly rubbed. You can actually see her smile! She is already housebroken and loves playing with the dogs and other puppies. She is already scheduled to be spayed 3-25-04. She is up to date on all her shots and has already been tested for heartworm, which was negative, and she has already started her heartworm medication. There is an adoption fee to help cover her medical bills and to pay for her spaying. You will also receive 2 months of FREE pet insurance. If you think that you would like to meet Kira call Marleen at #302-793-1096.
