About Lucy - Adopted!

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
Daphne has great NEWS! She just met her new Mommy & Daddy and two "human" brothers! They drove all the way from Dover on Rt. #95 Sunday traffic just to meet her. She made everyone smile .... and I noticed she did A LOT of smiling herself. She is a very lucky girl to have found such loving parents. They've promised to love her passionately every day of her life. Thank you again Petfinder for making all these matches possible!

UPDATE: What a little sweet joy this baby is! This morning she discovered the laundry basket in the bedroom. She found that dirty socks are better then toys! Not that she doesn't love toys! We have two baskets of toys that the "kids" can pick from. She put her head in there and pulled out several items, but then went back to the socks. My own 9 year old collie mix Sweetie taught her the joys of tug-of-war.

Daphne is a playful, curious little angel. She is crate trained and I'm sure we're WELL on our way to being housebroken. She really lets me know when she has to go out. She is a really good girl. She try's to play with all my dogs and seems very submissive. She has discovered that chasing cats is fun. Her tail is wagging all the time. This is so much different then the terrified little one we picked up from the shelter 4-25-04. Read below to see how far she has come in less then a week.

Would you like to meet our "kids" in person? Please join us for "Mingle with the Mutts (and a few Cats!)" on Saturday May 8th from 11am to 2pm at the Concord Pet Store at 291 Wilmington/ West Chester Pike (Rte 202), Chadds Ford, PA 19817. There will be door prizes and fun all around. And, Bruester's Ice Cream is right next door...yummy! This event will be held RAIN or SHINE!!!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Please let us introduce you to this beautiful little girl! She is an approximately 4 month old Great Dane mix who weighed in today at the vet at 36 1/2 pounds! Daphne is fawn color with a black mask and white socks. Her fur is as soft as velvet ... and she is just an absolute love. She just was rescued from the Georgetown SPCA and she was afraid of everything. I had to carry her because she fell to the floor or ground and cringed.
Today, she made great strides in being the little girl she was meant to be. She went to our vet today and had to be carried to the car and then again into the office. Inside, she met a few nice ladies who made a fuss over her. Especially the wonderful woman Loretta who works for Dr. Gray. Loretta makes every dog or puppy, cat or kitten who comes into the office feel very, very special!
Everyone told Daphne how pretty she is, and no one had to fib. She really is SO pretty! Dr. Brooks did his examination, also offered his compliments on her beauty, gave her all her vaccines and scheduled her spay for this week.
For Daphne, it was like a day at the spa! She walked out of the office with a new lease on life. She walked outside on her leash like a big girl (she had been carried in remember?) and jumped in my car. Well, she hesitated for a few seconds, then she jumped in. It's just a miracle to see that baby realize that she isn't gong to get hurt anymore and people can be nice after all.
Then we went to Petsmart and again she got out of the car like she's been doing it all her life. She walked in the store, OK, the store was a bit scary at first, but then again, people started stopping her in the aisles to say "how cute, how pretty, how old is she, how much does she weigh?" You know, the regular Petsmart chat. I watched her blossom into a confident baby girl in less then an afternoon.
This is the miracle that I've seen over and over when we rescue these "Shelter Kids" and bring them into our homes. We offer them love, kindness, food, toys, and new family that will love them forever.
If you think you would like to meet our dearest Daphne, please e-mail for an adoption application. She is currently residing in her foster home in Claymont. We will add new pictures of her as soon as possible. The pictures that you see here were taken when she was still a poor "shelter kid" and do not nearly do her justice! She is going to make someone a very lovely doggie, could it be you???
She is up to date with all her shots, will be micro-chipped, started on heartworm meds, and spayed.
