About Howie - Adopted!

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
FYI - Howie's Mom wrote: You'll be happy to know that Mr. Jeb Howie thoroughly enjoyed a generous cut of prime rib chop brought home from Harry's Savoy Grill last night. His daddy must be really taking a liking to him, cause he won't share his steak with just anybody! :) These are the stories of freedom that I most enjoy....Happy 4th of July!!!

Aunt Marleen asked: Do you think was Howie's first piece of steak?

Howie's Mom: Judging from his reaction I would have to say YES! this was Howie's first piece of prime rib ever!!! After he ate it, he started running around all puppy-like..it would have been a great commercial for that "beef- it's what's for dinner" campaign...

UPDATE: I'm so touched that Howie made the front page news! He certainly is worthy of such a headline! Last night, Eric got him to come into bed with us for the first time. He laid between us and alternated licking our faces, while his tail was wagging like crazy. It's the happiest I've seen him yet! Everyday, I see him getting more and more comfortable here and it brings us so much joy...in the meantime, perhaps we should be shopping for a king size bed :) Thanks again! Missy

A message from Aunt Marleen about Howie/Jeb. This young man who is now so beloved that his Mommy had a birth announcement made up for him ... was scheduled to die in our shelter system through no fault of his own. He is a wonderful, loving boy and we are so grateful that he found such wonderful new parents as Missy & Eric.

All of the dogs shown on our site and in the various shelters and rescue groups such as ours .... deserve the chance that Howie has received. Please open your heart and give one a chance to live and love you as only a rescue dog can. OK, stepping down from the soap box now.

A Message From Howie/Jeb:

Dear Aunt Marleen, Boy oh boy have I ended up in a crazy house this time! First of all, there's this great cold tile in the foyer that is perfect for laying on and being able to see out the front windows. So far, that's my favorite place to 'chill out."

Then, there's this really soft grass in the backyard that is perfect for hours of rolling and wigglin'. I've been trying to peek over the fence, just cause I want to see what's out there, but that seems to make the mommy nervous. She says, "no no" and I put on my sorry face and get down.

There's 2 cats that live here too...although the one seems a little angry and I've caught the other one spying on me when he thinks I'm asleep...

Last night, the humans made me go upstairs, which is something I've been trained not to do. It was very confusing, and the mommy had to lead me up with a leash. When I got up there, she gave me lots of hugs and treats, so I guess it's okay. She showed me a room that I guess is supposed to be for me, but I was happier curled up on the floor next to the human bed. I stayed there all night, even when the cats came by...

Oh, and have I mentioned that this mommy LOVES to go for walks?! Today, she took me to a park where we walked the trails. my hound nose was in high sniff mode! At one point we got to a creek and the mommy told me to get a drink, but I had a better idea. I laid right down in that cool running water and lapped it up! The mommy laughed and that made my tail wag. When we got home, we were both really tired so we took a nap on the floor. The mommy slept on my new doggie bed that i'm not too sure about and I curled up in a soft blanket.

Just now, a big thunderstorm rolled thru and that was kind of scary for me. I'm still not completely sure of my new surroundings, or who this mommy is that seems to want to spend ALL of her time hanging out with me and entertaining me, when I really have very simple needs. But that's okay. She's probably nervous too... Thanks for asking about me! I hope Uncle Yushi is okay... Love, Jeb Howie

UPDATE about our Jeb-a-licious! He has been adopted by a wonderful new Mommy & Daddy. Just like new parents, they will be nesting for the next few weeks to prepare for his arrival on 6-21-04. Jebby will have his own room, pretty good for a Georgetown SPCA dog, and two cats. The cats didn't seem to thrilled about this but I'm sure he'll charm them.

Jeb will have not only new parents but a TERRIFIC new back yard that had the most wonderfully soft grass. He did lots of happy feet and wiggling in his new back yard. He is staying with Aunt Marleen now and she only has a few spigs of grass, as seen in his picture at Aunt Marleen's backyard.

We think this is a great match and we are so happy for our big tail thumper that he has found people who will love him forever!

This is our wonderful boy, Jeb! This is one gorgeous big bundle of pure love. Oh my gosh, you are going to just flip over this guy! He is as friendly as you could possibly imagine, with a big old waggy tail and a constantly wiggling butt! Jeb is truly just a joy to be around, brightening up any room that he is in. He loves EVERYONE, but, at the same time is truly a gentle soul--as affectionate as he is, he is not the least bit overwhelming with his affection (you don't have to fear for your life every time he approaches--he won't knock you over or insist on face-to face contact)! He is just as perfect as could be. He stunned even these seasoned veterans with his perfection!

He went for his first bath at the groomer's today and she was just completely bowled over by his impeccable manners. He enjoys his crate, with its big old blankie, choosing to do most of his napping there even when he is free to roam the house. I cannot imagine a dog that would make his peoples' lives any more fulfilled than Jeb. I have to tell you, this big guy is truly a wonderful companion, making everyone feel special and unconditionally loved.

He understands and follows basic commands, too! He is housebroken, up-to-date on his shots and neutered, to boot. Can you believe it---this dog is gorgeous, beyond friendly and smart at the same time!! It is almost unfair for one dog to be so wonderful.

If you think that your heart can handle a guy like this, please e-mail us for an application.
