4?29/06 After a mysteriously long time with our rescue, Tokyo has just gone home with her forever family! She now has a wonderful and loving Mom and Dad, a 2 legged brother and sister, plus a cat sister to keep busy! After some initial shyness, Tokyo joined her new family and soon settled in for some much welcomed rubs. With Tokyo's big brown and adoring eyes looking up at them, there was no way they could resist stroking her thick, silky coat! As hard as it was to part with her, I know that her new family will love her as she deserves and that Tokyo's life has really just begun!!
UPDATE from Tokyo's foster Mom:
She is such a wonderful and ever so loving pup. She needs lots of lessons on lead. I doubt she's been out for walks prior to now. She does not get car sick and rides quietly and well. She is cuddly, attentive, and eager. She is highly intellegent, and observent. She immediately checked out our entire fence line for any possible escape routes. She has a high prey drive and we are working on that. She is in need of a constant supply of rawhide chews and stimulation. None of that is a surprise to me, just observations. She is the fastest of all the dogs I've had and will definitely be learning agility. I weighed her this morning and she's 28 lbs at 6 1/2 months. I will be surprised if she makes it to 40 lbs. full grown. She does not like her nails done but does not try to bite, growl, or mouth. She has no food aggression, eats slowly, and picks through her food to find the best stuff. She has no interest in cookies. Tokyo is a jumper and will steal off the table or other surfaces. That will be fixed in short order. She responds well to tone but does duck if you move too fast. I would say that she has been smacked a time or 2 in the past. She has not asked to go out but loves to be out. She definitely digs! Also something we'll work on.
This GORGEOUS puppy girl turned out to be Akita/Collie mix. That means she is not only very beautiful, extremely smart, regal and adores people, but has this soft, silky coat that is soft as a rabbit.
Her personality is sweet and she is a lover girl. She just wants to hug and be with her people. She loves playing with her foster sister and brothers, but it is me that she keeps looking for. She will be an excellent, loving companion.
She turned out to be on the petite side, and I really don't think she will go over 50 pounds (if that) full grown.
PLEASE NOTE:
Puppy Adoption Policies:
* We do not place puppies in homes where they will be left alone all day. Part-time employment is ok. Puppies, like babies, need lots of attention, socialization, and cuddles. We do not feel that it is humane to leave them in a crate for 8-10 hours at a time.
* An installed fence is mandatory if there are children in the home. The Invisible Fence companies give a discount to people who adopt from rescues. The fence must be installed before an adoption application will be processed. There are no exceptions to this.
* We will only adopt puppies to people who have had PRIOR personal puppy raising experience. This policy is due to people wanting puppies, then finding out just how much work they really are, and then returning them or worse, dropping them off to shelters.
* We also can no longer adopt puppies/dogs to people who have children under (8) years old UNLESS the children have been raised with puppies and dogs all their lives. This policy has been made necessary due to having our pups returned after the novelty wore off. We're told it's because they have been "nipping" at the kids. That is what puppies do and we need to find our pups homes with people who understand and expect this as "normal" behavior.
For this reason we will give preference to applicants who are experienced with the Akita breed and cherish them.
All L&F dogs/pups are crate & potty trained, temperament tested, have been chosen for sweet & gentle dispositions, have lived in foster homes with families, and have had the following:
SPAYED/NEUTERED
Microchipping
Tested for Heartworm, Lyme, Ehrlichia
On HeartGuard & Frontline Plus
Rabies, Distemper, Parvo vaccines.
Intra Trac ll Kennel Cough
Two De-Worming
