07/26/06 - Our little Loni has her own home finally. We have all loved her but each of our dogs need to have their own family. That is how it is supposed to be. Dogs + Family

Loni has been adopted by a family who adopted another little girl from us Hazel. Here is a picture of two L&F girls with their new Daddy! For us, it was a great day in rescue!

7/03/06 Little Loni is our newest foster dog and she is a BEAUTIFUL platinum blond with a velvety soft coat. She is doing GREAT here- playing with toys and the other dogs, learning the invisible fence and basic commands, and most importantly learning to trust that the world is a safe place to live in. She is a sweet, calm, quiet loving dog, who will make a wonderful pet for the right family. She sits at my feet while watching TV and will come and gently put her paws on my lap to give me little kisses. Although still timid with men, she loves to go for long walks with George.

Because of severe abuse and a serious illness in the past, Loni had developed the habit of avoiding anything that could hurt her. But, like many insecure dogs, that list had grown to include anything and everything- doors, the ceiling fan, trucks, eye contact with people. We've been working to expose her to the outside world and recondition her responses so she learns that she doesn't have to react and retreat to those things because people can be trusted to keep her safe.

UPDATE: Loni is getting prettier every day. She looks and acts very happy. She was a severe abuse case and is still shy but really seems afraid of men. She is getting braver every day
and we really feel that with the right family who had the patience to gain her trust -- she can be a loving little girl. She surely loves her foster Mom and gives kisses and happy waggy tails every day.

We will need to adopt her into a family who has had experience with abused animals. Sometimes she gets nervous and frightened at sounds so she will need a gentle hand and a quiet home.

She is completely housebroken - never even had an accident. She gets along with all the dogs here and truly enjoys our play time with her foster buddies. She also LOVES her crate. That is her den, her safe place and she always curls up and puts herself to bed.

UPDATE: Loni is in complete recovery. She is outside running, playing, and just having a wonderful time being a young pup. Her life was almost lost but thanks to Dr. Brad Gray of Brandywine Vet Hospital and so many "rescue angels" who provided donations for her emergency surgery, she is now ready to start her life with a loving family.

She is doing even better then Dr. Brad Gray thought she would. He said at first she would need special food for maybe 2 years and medication for 6 months and blood work every 6 months but he is really going to revise that. Can not say for sure yet, but it looks like she may only need her special food and medication for about 6 months.

She is so very small (only 30 pounds) that a bag of her special food cost but it lasts almost a month. She happens to love it also which has been very helpful. She takes one pill daily and will need blood work done every few months. So, there you have it! Pretty baby is not as expensive to take care of as we first thought.

She is really turning out to be playful and funny and so very happy to have stuffed toys and friends to play with.

All L&F dogs/pups are crate & potty trained, temperament tested, have been chosen for sweet, gentle dispositions, and are living in foster homes with families. They each have had the following:

Already SPAYED/NEUTERED (pups under 5 months must be prepaid)

Microchipped

Tested for Heartworm, Lyme, Ehrlichia

On HeartGuard & Frontline Plus (as long as they are with us)

Complete series of Distemper, Parvo vaccines and Rabies.

Intra Trac ll Kennel Cough

Two De-Wormings

PLEASE NOTE: Any dog/pup adopted from us must have a fenced in property either physical or Electric Fence. The fence must be installed
before we will proceed with processing an adoption application.

If you need a fence for your dog, but are not permitted to have a physical fence, or chose not to, please visit our friends at Pet Stop. Mention that you saw them at our website and they have promised to send us a donation to help our rescue work.

We do not adopt our puppies to people who work full-time. Part-time
is OK. We do not believe in leaving infants in crates all day.

We also expect that if no one is home all day, arrangements will be made to provide the dog with at least (1) "potty break" daily, whether it is through a family member, neighbor or petsitting service. We know that it is impossible for us humans to "hold it" for 8-10 hours, so we do not want our "shelter kids" to be expected to do so.

We have several petsitting service companies that we can recommend:
