About (DJ) Darling Jacob-ADOPTED!! | |
|
|
UPDATE: Our Darling Jacob (DJ) finally went home today 10-18-06. He had been with us since February. He is pictured here in his new fabulous yard, with his fabulous Mom & Dad. There is also a picture of DJ and his Mom in front of their pool --- the pool is inside the house. I don't know if DJ will be allowed in there, I didn't ask, but I certainly know that this home, this family was worth the wait. He has come along way from the horribly neglected dog who spent 8 years living outside, unloved, neglected and now he has a second chance to start his new life over. We are very, very happy for him. It was truly one of my best days in rescue!
UPDATE 10-16-06 - Just found a wonderful postcard in my mailbox. It shows Walt Disney World and is addressed to DJ Lock. That is what DJ's new last name will be. His parents are vacationing but as soon as they return the postcard says:
Hi DJ!!
Pack your bags - we'll be home next week - Your new family!!
I knew my Grandmother was right --- there is a lid for every pot. We have the "pots" and we just need to find the correct "lid" that is perfect for our shelter kids. I am very happy and it is an exceptionally wonderful day in rescue!!
UPDATE: We knew it would happen, it just took a lot longer then we thought, but DJ has finally met his new parents. They are on their way to Disney, but upon their return, they are going to start their lives together. I am so happy for my Darling Jacob that I am crying. It is a WONDERFUL DAY in RESCUE!!
UPDATE: Finally, DJ (Darling Jacob) Aunt Meghan captured the boy we all know and love. He is a big boy, 65 pounds of love, but he is so affectionate, so calm, so happy to be alive. We have always thought that DJ has a very, very "old soul" and he would love to share his wisdom and kisses with anyone who comes within 12" of that big smushy face!!
We have yet to find him his perfect home and we just do not know why. Everyone who meets him can see what a special boy he is. Well, we know that his family will show up, we'll just wait until that day when he can have his own people to love and adore for the rest of his life.
PLEASE NOTE: DJ does require a 5'-6' fence or an electric fence. He has shown great interest in trying to see what is on the other side of 4 foot split rail fences. He was chained up his entire life and I feel that he has a touch of wanderlust. He is content in my 6 foot fence but if he can see out -- and there was something interesting enough, all he would need is a running start and he would be gone. We can not risk his life by placing him in a home that does not have the proper fencing for his needs.
UPDATE: My sweet love bug Jacob is still looking for his very own forever family. As you can see by this picture, he just puts that big head of his in your hands, looks into your eyes, and just offers all his love to anyone who will pat him on the head. He is my favorite old boy and I love that face and beard of his -- which of course is always wet! He gives big sloppy kisses and just nuzzles as close as he can get to you. As much as he loves people, his favorite, and I do mean FAVORITE thing is the sofa. He curls up, then stretches out on his back like a human. I know he lived outside all his life so it does my heart good to see him happy and relaxed. We will only adopt Jacob to someone who allows their dogs on the sofa.
Below is a picture of Jacob with the puppy of one of our volunteers. It gives you an idea what Jacob looked like when he was a pup himself. Unfortunately she can't foster him because she has a 3 ft fence and Jacob is a big boy. But he certainly enjoyed playing with his little mini-me!
Jacob's story: He ended up in the shelter because his former owner was convicted of HANGING his former dog. He was not allowed to own a dog for 15 years. The SPCA heard that he had Jacob and confiscated him. Then poor Jacob had to sit in the shelter for 5 months due to this court case. He was not abused but rather neglected. His ears are "fly blown" which means since he lived outside his whole life the flies literally ate the skin right off his ears. He was horribly thin when he arrived at the shelter and even 5 months later when we took him into our rescue. Now he is a lean but the proper weight.
Update: Jacob is our sweetest most loving boy. We are all in love with his extremely calm and affectionate ways. Since he is an older gentlemen, our standard adoption donations are not required. We do need -- as always a donation to help us with our medical expenses for him.
Jacob is really doing well, he is starting to go in his crate at night on his own, he is learning the routines of the house. He has free reign of my home when we are there. His favorite place to be though
is on the sofa as you can see. Since this boy lived outside all his life
with no one caring if he lived or died --- we are requesting that he
is adopted into a home that will allow him on the sofa. We feel it is the
least we can do for him.
He is an absolute love, loves to just stare up into your eyes with those big beautiful brown eyes. He has a distinct personality. Fun and quirky kind of guy. It seems as though Jacob is just learning that life can be fun and you can play and relax and BE A DOG. He loves to chase my other foster Bon Jovi around the yard loves to run. I just saw him for the first time doing what we call HAPPY FEET, that is when they roll over and kick their legs all around the place. Jacob is everything you love about dogs, big, handsome and sweet. Jacob has been through a lot in his life, and yet he is totally willing to love and trust. When he finds his people we will all be very thankful to end (and to begin) Jacobs story the way he deserves!
Update from Jacobs Foster Mom:
He continues to be an absolute doll, when I look at his face, I see a teddy bear!!!! He continues to be a good dog with cats, kids, anything we throw at him. Jacob is a keeper. Whoever will take the time with Jacob will be rewarded ten fold!!!!!
Update from Jacob's foster mom.
Jacob is one of those truly special dogs, that you don't get lucky enough to meet every day. I would describe him as an old soul, you look into those big beautiful eyes and you just melt.
He wants so much to please you. He loves other dogs and is good with cats. We are working on Jacobs manners since he doesn't realize that he is a 65 lb boy with a head the size of a water melon. Jacob is an older boy, so he learns very fast. I am in love with the very special Jacob.
Jacob had his first Mingle yesterday and enjoyed himself immensely. He loved all the people and he loves kids. Also, although he played well in general, it appears that he is a dominant male, and he would probably do better as an only dog, submissive males or with female dogs.
This picture best represents the true Darling Jacob. He is a kiss face boy and he is most definitely an EXTRA special man. We would love to place him ASAP so he can finally get started on his new life which has certainly has not been great so far. You would never know it from Jacob. Jacob has Lyme disease and has started treatment.
He is a big (about 65 pounds of lean muscle) sweet, smushy faced, wiggle butt lover boy and I think ruggedly handsome. He met a 6 year old little boy and wanted to kiss him also. He just LOVES everyone! As you can see he is so affectionate he does "gently jump" on everyone but he is easily corrected. Like most dogs, he just needs to learn some basic manners.
We would love to help this boy find someone who will finally love him and cherish him as he deserves. He may not have had anyone love him but the wonderful thing about the spirit of dogs is they are still capable of loving us --- no matter what! That's Jacob, he just snuggles into your neck and asks -- begs to be hugged.

Please Note:
We do not adopt our puppies to people who work full-time. Part-time is OK. We do not believe in leaving infants in crates all day.
We also expect that if no one is home all day, arrangements will be made to provide the dog with at least (1) "potty break" daily. This can be through a family member, neighbor, or Petsitting service. We know that it is impossible for us humans to "hold it" for 8-10 hours, so we do not want our "shelter kids" to be expected to do so.
We have several Petsitting service companies that we can recommend:
