06-18-06 - It is my pleasure to note that we found the perfect home today for our Ruby. It was a little less then a month ago that she and I met for the first time at the Georgetown DE SPCA.

I knew that her life had been made extremely hard and painful by humans and yet --- her eyes begged me to touch her and still she flinched when I did.

Now, with having a wonderful foster home with Laurie and George, she saw that her pain and fear was behind her and she would only be loved and adored for the rest of her life.

It was a GREAT DAY in rescue!!

5/25/06 What a difference a few days makes! Ruby now is a joyful little girl. She prances around the yard, highstepping with her head high like a show dog. When she curls up next to me with her head in my lap, the blissful look in her eyes is heartbreaking. How anyone could have hurt this beautiful baby is unthinkable, but it undeniably happened. She still won't take food from us or eat near us, because it's clear that people used food to lure her close and then hurt her, proably while she was starving. She still jumps at every unexpected noise, but is no longer terrified of them, and her sensititvity to sound does mean that she almost instantly learned the invisible fence. We are starting to hear her hound dog baying when she's excited, such as playing ball or when she's near our goats, although in general she's a quiet clam girl, and a total love.

5/21/06 Update from new foster: You can see in her eyes what a sweet gentle soul Ruby is and what a hard life she's had until now. There are small scars on her face and you can tell by her cautious behavior that she's been abused in the past, but she still looks at each new person yearning to be petted and loved.
She's slowly settling in here (she's only been here one day), and she's still jumpy - to the point that when a toy she picks up unexpectedly squeaks, she leaps backwards and drops it. She's also very, very submissive to our other dogs, especially in the house, where she keeps looking to them for permission before she does anything. But when she's outside, running around in the meadow with them we can see what a beautiful, happy dog she can be. She is such a lovely dog, melting brown eyes, soft silky coat, and so well behaved. She will be a wonderful and devoted dog for anyone who is willing to take the time make her feel secure and loved.

Ruby came to us from the Georgetown DE SPCA. She reminds us a lot of Ellie Mae, a sweet and loving girl.

She has the same sweet, gentle spirit of our Ellie and I must say the Foxhound is my new favorite breed. They
have the most soulful eyes and their
ears feel like VELVET!!

Our poor Ruby was dumped at the shelter with her puppies. You know how those girls keep getting pregnant!!

We had her spayed today and vetted and she will spend her time learning how to be loved. She was abused and is fearful but day by day she is coming to me wanting to be kissed and hugged. That is my pleasure to kiss and hug this pretty girl!
