UPDATE: 07-13-06 - This beautiful creature went home today. Not only did she get a great set of new parents but she now has a BIG brother Bogie, and a huge back yard with LOTS of grass and get this --- a swimming pool!!
Maya just had her pins removed and for the first time I saw her run like the wind today. She was chasing her new brother, he was chasing her, and she was the happiest I have ever seen her.
Dr. Brad Gray from Brandywine Vet Hospital in Chadds Ford PA (610)459-0500 did her surgery and must have repaired her leg because you would never know that it had been broken or that she had been shot numerous times.
For me today --- I am happy to report -- it was a GOOD DAY in rescue!
Maya had her surgery to repair her "comminuted mid-shaft tibia and fibula fracture" by Dr. Brad Gray of Brandywine Vet Hospital in Chadds Ford PA. We had her X-rayed today and she is healing beautifully. In about 2 weeks we'll X-ray again and hopefully the pins can come out of her leg. Her surgery came to $821.00 but L&F had a fundraiser and that debt is already paid.
This dog is so calm, sweet & loving.
Despite her injury she follows me around just to be near me. She is extremely calm and gentle and is just a perfect lady. NO accidents at all in the house, she goes right to the door to let you know she wants to go out.
She gets along with all the dogs, and there are A LOT of dogs here but her favorite place is to curl up in her crate and snooze. Maya will make a wonderful companion and whoever adopts her will have be adored for the rest of their life.
Maya will be coming in this weekend on a transport from the shelter she is in Virginia. They could not justify spending the necessary money for her surgery so we are having her done at the Brandywine Vet Hospital by the infamous Dr. Brad Gray!
Description from the VA shelter:
Maya came to us as an injured stray from a local man who found her and her 4-month-old puppy Caleb. We assume she has been hit by a car, as X-rays reveal a spiral fracture in her femur, and surgery is needed very soon to alleviate her pain. We are searching for resources to help her, but are pulled about 100 directions trying to help so many other dogs and cats in our care that we may end up having to make that horrid decision to just let her leave this physical world. She is a lovely, sweet dog who really deserves help. Stoic, she is touching her foot down even though the break is obviously a bad one. She wags her tail when anyone comes by to visit and she is friendly and outgoing. Surgery will be $700. It is hard to justify putting that much money into this one gorgeous dog when we could help so many others, but we are trying to work something out for her.
