HAPPY TAILS UPDATES!

8/30/06 - Ruby

Also wanted to let you know that our friend Ruby is doing well.  She plays with her friends Snoopy & Lucy during the day and has so much fun.  She loves to run and run in our yard; doesn't like to play fetch - usually it's us chasing her and she loves it.  She also loves to tackle us from behind as we run.  She has got some speed as she runs.  We love to watch her run...just too funny sometimes.  She has discovered pears from our pear tree.  She'll only eat the ones we happen to be munching on and runs away with it and enjoys her little treat.

She eats very well now - she was quite skittish at first and warmed up; sometimes she still flinches if you disturb her while eating.  She forever will be the hunting dog...Joe was walking her a few weeks back...she ran into a bush after a squirrel and came out with a rabbit in her mouth.  We couldn't believe it...she didn't hurt it - just had it by the neck.  Yikes.  Rabbits are her specialty - oh boy.

She always has this 'love me' look on her face and it's not hard to jus stay and cuddle with her.  Even when we're playing in the yard, she'll just drop and roll on her back so she can get a belly rub in the middle of the running.

Hi, Cathy -
I have a great little dog lying by my feet right now taking a snooze after a long day.  Tokyo was great on the ride to West Chester and, as expected, she slept the whole way.  We made a quick pit stop at the pet store to get her a few toys, food and a collar and when arriving home took her for a walk around the neighborhood.  She had several visitors today.  Both neighbors on either side of us stopped by to say hello and Tokyo even met her new friend, Mollie the collie next door.  They sniffed around each other and it appears they will be friends.   Both Jessica and Matthew played with her and attempted a game of fetch.  Tokyo appeared to like fetching the stick more than the ball and enjoyed running around the yard (with long leash for now!)
She is a great dog and well behaved.    It is evident you have spent a great deal of time and effort with her training and we will continue. We have found ourselves a wonderful new family member.  Thank you for everything and for rescuing such a sweetheart!  We will definitely keep in touch!
Kind regards,

The Brink Family

Laurie -- Braveheart is such a sweetie -- my shadow -- Andy is upset
that he
likes me better!!! especially since he was the one who picked
Braveheart
out!!!!
He has done his pee-pee every time I take him out -- which is often --
and
has also done business outside twice ... BUT he has also peed 3X and
pooped
1X inside!!!  Looks at me so innocently as if to say "not me"!.
Did great yesterday riding in the car and also went for another ride
later
to visit Andy's grandmother -- met Trooper a 10-year old black lab.
Braveheart was holding his own against the 100 pounder -- but we had to
leave -- was afraid he would rip a stitch so soon -- just a little too
much
activity.  Also did great meeting everyone who visited yesterday -- met
10
new people and they all loved him.
Didn't finish my noet and must have hit a wrong key while petting
Braveheart -- he is lying on a pillow under my feet as I type.
Slept by my bed last night -- started out is his bed but found him
curled up half under my round table that has a cover/shirt over it.
That's his upstairs hiding place.  After Ed got up at 5ish this morning
and took him out he ended up in bed with me until 7 -- we cuddled.
What a baby!!!!
I had play practice from 6:30 - 8:30 last night -- Ed and Andy were
home -- Ed called me after I left and said Braveheart sat at the door
for 15 minutes waiting for me to come back in -- when I got home, I was
welcomed by about a million kisses -- and genuine cries of
joy/excitement.  Which mad Andy mad that he loves me so much.
What a perfect
gift!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'll get some pictures in the mail to you the next couple of days --
I'm kinda of really busy now!!!!
The vet comes tomorrow at 5 so I'll let you know how that goes -- he
had a coughing spell during the night and one this morning.  Sounds
nasty.
Good luck with Mimi -- saw her yesterday at the vet -- she is beautiful
and seemed very sweet.
Talk to you soon.

Hi Laurie,
I wanted to send some more photos of Dobie and let you know that he is doing really well.
He and Kuma (As you can see from the photos) are pals. We started letting them together again about 2 weeks after Kuma's surgery. Dobie makes him feel young again. Everything you read about Akitas says to be careful around other dogs, but Kuma has always loved them.
Most of the cats really like Dobie now. They come to him for attention as often as they come to me. They rub up against him a lot. He is a total sweetheart.
He plays a game I call 'Sanford & Son'. It involves him dragging anything he can find into the front yard. He even toilet papers the yard if he manages to get into the bathroom. I call it 'Sanford & Son' because that's what the yard looks like when he's done. "Blaze, where are my shoes." "They're probably in the front yard." It's very funny. He doesn't hurt anything; he just likes to carry stuff around.
I took him to Petsmart last week to let him pick out some toys. As soon as we walked in the door, he was overwhelmed and started barking at every other dog in the  place. He picked out 2 new toys. He has an appt. Friday to be groomed. Let's hope he doesn't lick the groomer to death.

Hi,

I just wanted to let you know that all is well, and Dobie is doing fine. I had him to the vet today. They gave him a shot for tapeworm (just in case). His coughing had started up again the past couple of days, but he has no fever, so the doc said just to wait it out a bit because it is just residual symptoms.
Kuma spent a couple of days feeling him out. Dobie rolled over on his back for him a couple of times, then both tails started wagging. I know that's the usual course of things, but I bet Kuma also wanted to make sure his new brother wasn't like the last one. Kuma seems very comfortable with Dobie.
He loves all the cats. His favorite is our youngest one. They are about the same age. And of course Dobie loves to give him baths (even though his tongue is the same size as the cat's head). One of his favorite pastimes is sticking is head in the cat opening in the 1/2 door to the kitchen and watching the cats.

Here is Mr. Scout sporting his new personalized bandana.  Also feeling sorry for himself because I'm sick today and can't go for our jog.  My husband is making him steps so he can get up on our bed because our bed is to high for him since he isn't much of a jumper.  He will come to the bed and put both front paws up and stare at you until you finally pull him up.  So my husband decided he needs steps because it creeps him out the way he will wake up and Scout is just staring at him

Hi,
Well, a week has passed since Jane came to live with us.  And she has made much progress into learning when and where to potty and such.  She is such an affectionate and calm dog and greeted Jack's adult daughter and two granddaughters yesterday and then curled up between them.
We are still crating her at night and when we are out and she has yet to gain more than first floor house privileges.  But I suspect that it won't be long before she is totally safe anywhere in the house.
Thanks again for providing such a wonderful choice for us to adopt.  We think she's the best!

Sydney's update

01/23/06

Kelly,
Cole is a dream and we can't thank you enough.
He did cry when we were first on the road (as you said he might)
but then he slept.  We stopped once on the ride home and walked him but
he didn't go.  Once we got home the kids showed him the whole house.
He seemed a little nervous with our stairs for a minute but then
realized there was nothing to be nervous about.  He went to the door a lot so
we walked him several times before he felt comfortable to do his
business. (I'm guessing he's probably not used to doing his business on the
leash.)
He did cry when put in his crate Saturday night but I laid down
next to him and he calmed down and fell asleep and slept thru the night.
Last night he was fine.
I think we exhausted him yesterday!  He got a nice long walk and
played with the kids in the backyard, met a couple of Sean and
Jacqueline's friends. By 4 he was sleeping in his bed! (We have two beds for
him downstairs and his crate is upstairs.)
We've taken 3 walks today and now he's asleep next to me.  He did
get a hold of an old pair of my clogs and chewed the back but mostly he
has been chewing on his new toys. (Which is unusual for us because my
other dogs would destroy toys.  We were a bone only house.)
The kids are just in love with Cole and took in pictures of him to
school.  Sean is so good with walking Cole when he goes to the door and
is responsible for feeding him and making sure his water bowl is always
filled.
I will try to send you some pics.  Thank you so much. We will keep
you up to date on his progress. We are very impressed with how you have
trained him.  We're practicing "stay" and he is starting to get "heel".
I am looking for an obedience school for Sean to go with Cole.
    More later.
    Warmly,
          Catherine

Hi Denise!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Thanks for your note... Sorry it's taken so long to get back to you but
we've just been having a ball with Rosa and with the holidays have been
very busy.

Rosa is doing FANTASTICALLY WELL! Yes, of course, she has been to the Vet
and got an A+ on her check-up and visit. She is amazingly smart, and has
settled in with us so wonderfully well. We really feel she is very happy
here with all of her new four and two-legged pals and she's getting so much
attention. We love her dearly. She is full of piss and vinegar -- can
often be very mischievous and LOVES to remind blind Fozzie that he is STILL
a puppy too. Outside, they spend a lot of time chasing each other around
and being goofy in the snow. Our wonderful little baby sleeps between
Maggie and Fozz at night, and, of course has found a place on the bed.
(Thank god, it's king size!)

Travis has taken her to Wildwood with him several times and EVERYONE there
absolutely adores her. She is soooo polite and is such a perfect lady --
and responds so positively to every pat, hug, cuddle and all the love the
residents there bestow upon her. She has made quite an impact on everyone
there, and because of Rosa, some of the other "residential houses" are
considering the same type of frequent visitor (addition.)

She has the PERFECT disposition to be a part-time therapy dog, and she
seems to thrive on all the attention and constant positive energy she not
only gives, but receives as well. Travis and one of the residents taught
her how to give a "high five" in less than ten minutes one night. She
heels, sits, lies down, shakes and speaks on command and LOVES the
bite-sized Greenie bones. (There were many in her Christmas stocking and
she tried to grab Fozzies as well!) He felt differently of course about
giving up his green. ::smile::

Travis hopes to enroll him and her at the local Hospital and hopes very
much they will be accepted in their program, so he can bring her to visit
sick children who need a little boost. We are excited about this, and hope
it all turns out in the best way possible. She loves riding in the car and
loves hiking and long walks outdoors -- of which she has many.

We are so happy with Rosa and want to again thank you and Marlene and
EVERYONE involved in Lost and Found. We've not forgotten about you and
hope to be able to make your New Year a much better one.

Thank you again for all you do, and the unconditional love you continue to
give to all the lost and broken furry friends. You provide an amazing and
very special service that "other" people only talk about -- but so few
actually get out there and DO. What a difference you make for so many...
4-legged and 2-legged alike. May God bless you and empower all of you with
the tool and necessities you need to continue and even make your jobs
easier. We think of you so often.

We will send pictures soon!!!
So Fondly,
Deborah, David, Travis, Sean and Nicky
and the four-legged crew of:
Maggie, Fozzie, Rosa, Manson, Harley, Spook and Amadeus!

Laurie:
Hope you, George, and  your daughter, and the dogs, are well.
Charlize is doing great!
My wife has found some dogs for her to play with.
We just had house guest who brought their dog and they were best buds.
She does love other dogs.
She has grown much stronger and bigger about 46 pounds.
She can really jump and loves to leap in the air on all four leggs. She does this to the amusement of others.
Her chewing seems to be slowing down. She does find the oddest things in our property. Some of the things she has dragged across the yard are truly amazing.
She runs and jumps like a gazelle. Loves to play catch and tug of war. She is much more assertive now.
You can tell she grew up with other dogs as she constantly takes her dish with her and puts it under the kitchen table.
She is so sweet with her girls.  We have our night time ritual with her saying goodnight to the girls every night.  She does love to snuggle.
We did have a trip to the Vets. They lazered off a growth.  They think it was an in grown hair.
She took one step in the vets and ploped her body right down.  Had to pick her up and carry her in.
Regards,
Bruce and Amanda

Charlize quickly figured out the invisible fence. She spent  a good part of the day yesterday with me outside taking down the xmas lights.  She watched the neighborhood activity while I worked.
Her delicate system also seems to be on the mend. Slept the whole night last night with no incidents.
Her energy level has certainly picked up.She has learned to play fetch  with the squeaky ball we bought her. She has also grown accustomed to her morning walks.
My girls are too funny playing chase with her ourtside.  Right now they are playing secret agent Barbie with her through the house.  They sing and she chases them through the house.  All are getting plenty exercise and fun.
Working on finding her a dog paymate.  The sheltie across the street is something of wimp, and is intimitated by her size. Charlize is quite gentle, though.
She is a true joy and is bringing much joy and happiness to our family!

Regards,
Bruce

Just wanted  to drop you quick note  from the Heberton girls-Emma, Aubrey, and Charlize!
Char has developed into quite the Jumper.  She now loves to jump straight into the air from all fours to the amusement of strangers.  She truly loves people and dogs-except teenage boys for some reason she avoids them.
She truly has become a member of the family and we feel very blessed!
Best regards,

Bruce Heberton and Family

Hi Laurie, Beth and George:
Big day for Charlize.  After a thorough check out of the new diggs, and a big dinner, she has settled down.
She does love liver treats, and is quick to want to please.

Charlize is now sleeping on our bed next to my wife. Fortunately we have a large bed!

You all have done a wonderful job socializing this dog. We are very appreciative. Thanks again!

Best Regards, Bruce Heberton and family

Hi and Happy New Year! Just wanted to give you an update on Roger. Randy and Roger are getting along very well. As a matter of fact, they are getting on better than I had hoped for their initial meeting. Roger has been a perfect fit here and it seems like he has adjusted well and feels at home already. He has felt comfortable enough to take Randy's spots, LOL. Here are some pics. Enjoy,  Roberta & Mike Hofmeister

Hi Laurie! Thanks for all of your help with Meadow!
She rode home calmly (just a bit of motion sickness) and quickly assimilated
into the family! She and Galley are already fast friends and she loves her
bed (although she would prefer the couch!) and  has already  selected her
own "spots" around the house! It's hard to believe she has only been here 24
hours! What a sweet girl! We love her!

These are all Wetzel kids ...  The 3 pups shown here are the luckiest pups in the world because they started out as my sister-in-law Mary Oetzel's foster pups --- but then they became what we call "foster failures" because she adopted them all. That makes them very, very lucky pups indeed. The other cutie also was given a wonderful home and now lives in New York.

My best, Marleen

12/28/05 Hi Denise,
hope you and your pups had a good holiday.
Brook is doing great. She had a little mishap Christmas eve and cut the pad on her foot an dof course my vet was closed so I bandaged it up until the vet opened on Monday. Santa was very good to her, she got lots of gifts and she LOVES unwrapping presents.
There is a doggy daycare place a couple of miles from the house. We went to check it out and she got to play with some of the dogs. She seemed to enjoy it so we are going to start taking her there once or twice a week so she can get some social time and not be cooped up in the house.
As you can see by the picture she is quite the poser too :)
Hope you and yours have a happy and safe new years.
Keep in touch.

Steve

Hi Denise,
I see Brook made the happy tails update page. The picture is a little distorted and makes her look chubby :) I may send you a better one.
We went to training orientation last night and the trainer said she is
HIGHLY INTELLIGENT (I'm such a proud daddy).
How are your "kids"?
Steve

12/28/05  Marleen,

Because Cody usually runs from the camera, we don't have many good pictures of him, but Josh got these of Cody today on a walk. Isn't he beautiful? Laurie & George

Hi Dana,
Hope this e-mail finds you well and that your family enjoyed Easter!

How are Misty, Ty, and Scout? I think Sophie misses her buddy Scout.

Attached are some pictures of Sophie's first trip to the mountains
with me. She had a blast and came back completely exhausted.
Unfortunately her bad mom gave her water from the tap (hard water)
so her stomach was not happy....poor thing. But once we figured it
out and gave her bottled water, she was back to making every attempt
at chasing anything that moved.

Enjoy this gorgeous weather!
Shannon & Sophie

01/31/06

Hi Dana,
What a cutie! He has a very sweet face and it sounds like he's a
pretty smart little guy. I swear, I just can't understand why more
people don't get dogs from Rescues and Shelters. There are so many
fantastic ones out there and I am constantly amazed at the thousands
of dollars people spend for puppies that could very well have many
more issues than a shelter dog. Every time I see these cute faces, I
want to take them all home!

How is Ty doing? Is he enjoying all the play time and walks?

Sophie seems to turn into more of a character every day. She's such
a smart little thing and so extremely loving and well-behaved.
Nearly every day at the dog park she has someone laughing. We
decided that she definitely has some hunting dog in her because she
now does this crouching down, stalking, low-crawling thing when she
plays with her favorite doggy friend, Pearl. Some people are
convinced that she's part cheetah. Never a dull moment with her
gremlin growling, low crawling, and dancing in circles to get dogs
to play with her. And, best of all I think she really knows now that
she's not going anywhere.

Take care,
Shannon

12/30/05Hi Dana, Thanks again for following up on this stuff with the chip!
Sophie wasn't sure what happened when we left - the poor thing shook all the way back to my house. I felt so bad so I let her sit on my lap (probably not the safest driving technique). Once we arrived home however she was out of the car and interested in everything.
Jerry was busy finishing a motion detector light for the back yard so she would have light everytime she went out and putting in the dog door - both projects she was happy to help with (if you count kissing him profusely every time he bent down low enough so she could reach him help).  After a rawhide, wrestling with Jerry, and exploring the house and  back yard, she found "her spot" and passed out on the couch (see attached picture).
Thanks again for providing such a good foster home for her. I'll keep you updated as she gets settled in. I think we're both in for an adventure.
Happy New Year!
Shannon & Sophie

We now have a new addition to our family, a 4 month old Golden retriever/collie/husky ?  She was rescued from West Virginia by Lost and Found Dog Rescue and we adopted her this evening.  Her name is Roxxi, Julia came up with the name, it was the only female name that sounded like Rocky.  She looks so much like him and she is all puppy.  She is so sweet and lovable and we are very fortunate to be able to adopt her.  Our vet said that when the time is right a perfect dog will just fall in your lap.  We saw her on the petfinder web site and put in an application for adoption, then I found out there was an adoption pending.  We were all upset she looked just perfect.  Then I received the call today that the adoption fell through and we could come see her.  So I guess the vet was right.
The first and third pictures are Roxxi and of course the second one is Rocky.

Take care,          Debi

Hi Guys! Found some info thought you all might get a kick out of. We have decided that Roxi is a Ibizan Hound mix. My friend saw a picture at her vet and told me about it. I looked it up and it is Roxi to the tee. Except she is black and pure breds are white and red so she is obviously a mix. I attached some pictures of pure breds and you'll see what I mean. The description is very large triangular ears, front legs perfectly straight from elbows to ground, deerlike, agile and highly skilled jumpers, fast, very intelligent and highly trainable, even tempered, affectionate and loyal. Describes Roxi perfectly. Of course when I tell people what she is now they won't have a clue!
Hope you are feeling better Marleen
Take care,
Deb Maten

PS got the chip registry stuff, thanks

12/30/05     Hi! Roxanne, Roxi, is great. She was great on the drive home and either layed on the floor or in my lap. She has adapted well, eating fine, giving everyone kisses and snuggling on the couch. I enclosed a couple pictures of Kevin with her. I still have her on a lease but she seems to be remembering the fence with no problem.  She wants to play with the cats but isn't too aggressive. Two of them have checked her out, the other two are still in hiding. She is using her crate fine too.
We will stay in touch, Happy New Year, and Thank you so much!!

Deb, Mark, MIke, Dan and especially Kevin
